The exhibition at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montreal presents some 400 of the most representative objects of art and design made in Italy throughout the twentieth century, including furniture and glassware, textiles, ceramics, and of course paintings, sculptures, photographs and architectural designs.
The impresive catalogue (also available in French)is divided into four sections ­ optimism without limits, monumentality and rationalism, reconstruction and the economic miracle, and postmodern experimentation ­ that define the various periods of philosophic, economic and aesthetic thought that together created the recent history of Italian art and design.
The exhibition will also be at the Royal Ontario Museum (October 21, 2006 to January 7, 2007) and in Italy at the Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto (March 3 to June 3 2007).
